Book Overview

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - Now a major motion picture starring Ryan Gosling, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Drew Goddard

A lone astronaut must save the earth from disaster in this "propulsive" (Entertainment Weekly), cinematic thriller full of suspense, humor, and fascinating science--from the author of The Martian.

HUGO AWARD FINALIST - NEW YORK TIMES READER PICK: 100 BEST BOOKS OF THE 21ST CENTURY - ONE OF THE YEAR'S BEST BOOKS: Parade, Newsweek, New York Public Library, Polygon, Shelf Awareness, She Reads, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission--and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it's up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery--and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he's got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

Hailed by USA Today as "an epic story of redemption, discovery, and cool speculative sci-fi," Project Hail Mary is an irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver.

A Great Sci-fi read

It's been awhile since I've read a "Great" Sci-fi book. I'm normally too busy to do leisure reading. However, a tourist recommended this book to me and I ordered it immediately. No intellectual slumming here but not overbearingly technical either. It helps to be, at the very least, somewhat familiar with discussions in contemporary topics in science.

Perfect piece of science fiction

Get this for the sci fi lover in your life, this is very much a “dudes rock” book

Perfect

A science book that makes you want to be a scientist in hopes that you will be chosen to save earth and meet an alien who will become your bestfriend.

amazing book!!

this book was a really fun read, I finished it in about a day! I really liked how realistic it felt, like this could really happen. (๑˃̵ᴗ˂̵) I read this shortly after watching the martian. the martian is also a nice book. same author so there are obvious similarities there.

Transporting

This book is one of those that makes you forget you're reading. Personality filled dialogs with crisp environment descriptions. Definitely a book to reread again and again.

long-time Andy Weir fan

one of the best Weir books to date. it has the same voice that Weir has cultivated- it's funny, it's brash, and it's got flawed, idiot characters who can laugh or cry at themselves. its delightful- a wonderful way to introduce amnesia into his writing.

Dedication page

I knew I would love the book as soon as I saw it was dedicated to John, Paul, George, and Ringo.

Loved it!

Wonderful odyssey with two protagonists you can’t help but care deeply about. Claws up!!!

You'll love it even if you're not a fan of sci-fi

I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi. If I read sci-fi, it's the funny sort of sci-fi like Hitchhiker's Guide. This book had me rolling on the floor laughing. It's funny, cute, thought provoking, and the very science-y parts are well explained for the average layman to understand. I recommend this book to everyone I know, and so far everyone I know who has read it feels the same way. 10/10 would recommend.

Absolutely incredible

This book is one of my all time favorites I cannot begin to describe how much I loved it. I thought the Martian was great but this is another level. Wow wow wow. I read it in one sitting and I just want to start over and read it all over again
