Your beutiful and thats for sure

I've been lecturing VB for a while and I've been through various different books and I must say this is probably the best I've ever come accross. Dietel is excellent for reference but useless for "studying from", while most of the other books are "filling in the blanks" and students don't actually get to understand what an object is and what data driven is concepts are.Sure this book has it's downside but untill I find something better it's "Tops" with me.

A diamond in the rough...way better than the Deitel book!!!

I've been a fan of the Deitels' How to Program books. Since this book is our school's text on VB, I was forced to go through the chapters, even after stubbornly purchasing and doing some advanced reading on the Deitel VB6 book. As a beginning VB programmer, I'm happy to say that this book has helped me systematically learn so many concepts in a short span of time & in an organized and digestible manner. Mastering the concepts simply requires going through the detailed step-by-step examples provided in each chapter, and then simply comleting the provided exercises at the end of each chapter. This book is a gem!!!My poor Deitel book now gathers dust in a corner.

A good advanced VB book

It also teach you a lot of design technique.

Excellent but not a starting point

I am a Programmer/Analyst student and had to buy this book for a course in Visual Basic. My school offers two courses in VB (part 1 & 2). The first course (part 1) is designed for beginners with little or no experience with VB and is a prerequisite to VB 2. The textbook used in that course is 'Programming with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0' by Diane Zak (ISBN 0-7600-1071-4). I recommend Zak's book for anyone new to Visual Basic.Programming with Visual Basic 6.0 An Object-Oriented Approach Comprehensive is used in VB 2. Though it is stated in the preface of the book that "no previous experience with visual Basic is required" I have to disagree. This book is not for the beginner. It is designed for those who have an extensive understanding of VB's basic programming concepts such as loops, arrays, and error trapping. From there you can utilize this book to strengthen your previous knowledge of VB and learn more advanced concepts such as SQL, MDI, and class modules.

Excellent book on Object Oriented Programming using VB6!

I don't mean to offend the reviewers who negatively critised this book but in my personal opinion these reviewers seem to have misunderstood the objectives of this book. It seems to me that these reviewers may be more comfortable with a "procedural" language rather than "object oriented". I found this book simply EXCELLENT within the objectives for which it was written for. I have so far completed 7 Chapters in this book and it truly deserves a FIVE STAR rating!I am thinking of personally writing to the author for taking so much pain to explain the syntax of the language in great detail. A moderately experienced programmer might even admit that the authors have gone slightly overboard in explaining things. The overall layout of the sections and exercises is extremely logical and userfriendly to the learner.I can't praise enough for the quality and practical relevance of examples used by Dr/s. Ekedahl and Newman.Regarding getting some errors and being confused, I think you should use a little bit of your own imagination and "figure it out" -- afterall programming is a lot about problem solving.I can write more comments but unfortunately I am running out of time but I would like to offer at least one suggestion to those who apparently had problems with this book: please make sure that you are using a good compiler. Some compilers supplied with books may be loaded with bugs and may have conflicts with your Windows operating system. I used the authentic Visual Studio/VB6 Enterprise Edition compiler from Microsoft. In closing, I would strongly recommend this book to both beginners and those who need to learn Windows programming using VB6.Happy reading!Edward Ratnam, MSME Ph.D-Controls
