Interesting read

As stated in other reviews, the author does have a tendency to write like "I'm so smart, look at me," however the book is still interesting and educated me on the thought process of profiling. The cases she talked about were engaging, but they were never solved, or at least not that she mentioned, so that was frustrating.

Author has a big ego.

Not a well written book, the author only wants to let you know how smart she is and writes like the reader is an idiot. I liked reading about the cases she looked into though. But she really didn’t solve a single one. So big deal she profiles! No one was arrested because of her. Don’t waste your time with this book like I did.

Read the reviews on Goodreads and Amazon

She's a rude person that I had the displeasure of trying to learn from. I asked her a question and she responded with malice. I don't intend to buy this book but I also believe it's important for you all to know that the reviews on the other sites will tell you the TRUTH about her "hunting" of serial killers. (She states that she is self-taught and doesn't have the foundation of a profiler)

Mind-bending !

Absolutely outstanding writing ! I had to force myself to put it down. Pat Brown was able to share her experience in profiling and how she actually started doing it. She explains why and how a lot of law enforcement agencies over look some of the smallest details that can prove to be so valuable in solving a case and not letting it go "cold". She explains in her book how she went from being a stay at home mom, raising and eduacating her children, then realizing that criminal profiling was an interest that she worked hard to pursue and became very successfull at. I admire how she talks about her life in this book, but even more how she is able to put all the words together that make so much sense. I would even recommend her book to anyone who has never even read a word about criminal profiling and I look forward to reading her next book !

Inside the life of a profiler!

Profiler Pat Brown takes readers inside her life and details the fascinating life changing experience that made her become one of the worlds leading criminal profilers! Brown grabs the readers attention with the dramatic story of how she, an average housewife suspected a boarder living with her family of being a serial killer! Brown goes on to detail some of the tragic murder cases she has profiled as a profiler and Brown guides the reader on how she tackles each case. It's amazing how many sickos Brown has to profile in just one case! Most importantly Pat takes away the "mystery" of what a profiler is. She is upfront and direct. She doesn't talk down to the reader, she isn't psychic, and she doesn't brag about her "abilities" (as if she is some sort of super human), as other profilers would lead us to believe they are! Brown has experienced it all during her career as a profiler. Now you can understand why Brown is the go-to-profiler for all the TV talk shows concerning the days most horrific murder cases! This is one fast paced and exciting book that you will not be able to put down! Hopefully since writing this book law enforcement will be more willing to use profilers such as Pat and utilizing their techniques to solve more cases, BEFORE they go cold.

Fascinating True Read About Profiling

I have had the honor of studying under the direction of Pat Brown in the field of profiling.I hold many graduate degrees including a JD in Law. I anticipated the release of Ms. Brown's next book and could not wait to read it after I had personally experienced learning from her in this field. While her book was not intended as an academic read, such as a textbook, it accurately and truthfully portrays her experiences breaking into this field. The book conveys her passion about the subject, her caring feelings for the victim's families, and her ambition to make someone listen. The book truthfully tells a story exposing her vulnerabilities due to her being a self made profiler. She had the courage to "tell all".This is respectable. This gives her credibility. She has the courage to stand up and tell you her story despite what any of us say. The victims in these cases do not have a voice. Their voice has been eliminated by their attacker. Profiling requires you to figure it out sometimes with little more than the dead body lying before you. It requires you to ask questions, make theories, test those theories etc. Endless hours go into an investigation. Endless hours went into the preparation of this manuscript. I thought it was an honest true reflection about Pat Brown, her life, and her experiences as a self-made profiler. Great book!

really interesting and well written

I always wanted to know how profilers really profiled and finally, I found Pat Brown who is willing to explain how it is done. I love the books written by FBI profilers, but this book is great because Pat Brown doesn't just tell us about the big well known cases, but talks about cases I've never heard about. It was so interesting to me because the people in the cases, both the killers and the victims, seem just like people I know. I learned a lot from this book about how people behave, how profilers figure out what they are thinking and why they do the things they do. A fun book to read!

Reads like Fiction, but Clearly its Not

I couldn't put the book down because the stories (the cases) were like a 86th Precinct police procedural with a Ross Thomas twist of events; the profiler Pat Brown travels around the US solving bizarre murders or does she? Is it solving a case if you figure it out and the cops like the profile, but can't get probable cause for arrest? If it were fiction, the endings would all be happy, but it is Brown's point to the readers, that she can't make real life have a perfect ending. She is trying to change that, but she doesn't hold back the truth from the matter as it stands. If you don't mind that whack in the head, you will really find the book fascinating; Brown examines each case carefully, reviewing all the evidence and photos and interviews (sometimes she actually does her own of the suspects) and she explains how she came to her conclusions. You can learn a lot about how to profile a crime yourself as she doesn't hide any of how she figures out the scenario. Straight forward but fascinating at the same time. A different kind of book than has been written about the world of criminal profiling before. I liked Brown's approach and I look forward to another read from her in the future.
