Excellent C# E-Commerce Book

The author did a wonderful job of showing how to build a fully-functional, e-commerce website in C#. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to learn how to build an e-commerce site from scratch. When I have my computer on, [...] I wish Paul Sarknas well for taking the time to write a book like this. [...]

Hands-on working, real life experience in design, analysis, coding 3-tier web site

Hands-on working, real life experience in design, analysis, coding 3-tier web site. When searching for books explaining design, analysis, and coding of 3-tier web sites, there are few books that give the reader the hands-on real-life experience. This book does give the real-life knowledge and experience readily applicabale in corporate work environemnt. Written in C# language makes the book even more valuable. the use of Microsoft Data Access Application Blocks for the data access layer is a real-life readily applicable working knowledge and experience. Mr. Sarknas has written a book with excllent hands-on, readily applicable code examples, with code samples and practical start to finish of creating an N-Tiered website capable of hosting a multitude of users. therefore, my strong recommendation is also to (buy or download the book) and to download the book source code from Apress. You really need a firm grasp of the object-oriented principles and multi-tiered architectures to take advantage of the information herein. Overall, an excellent adventure in programming. I also strongly recommend purchasing if you are serious about developing websites for you, a client, or your current company. It will save you many hours of frustration.

Practical book that gives working, real life examples

Let's face it, if you are a computer programmer, you have a 'few' books in your development library that stand out as some of your best. Get ready, if you are into ASP.NET E-Commerce websites with some of the latest technologies, this book will be promoted to your desktop and not to some hidden corner on your bookshelf. Mr. Sarknas has written a book that other authors can only strive for. It is fairly short, 616 pages, with code samples and practical start to finish examples of creating an N-Tiered website capable of hosting a multitude of users. (I loved the use of Microsoft Data Access Application Blocks for the data access layer). Now with all that said, it's editing has not been perfect, it got a little 'choppy' around the Business Logic layer of the book with it's code examples, therefore, by all means my strong recommendation is to download the book source code from Apress, you won't be dissatisfied once you reference the Completed Code sub-directory to figure out where some of it went wrong and why your project won't compile with the F6 key. Also, note, 'Pro' is in the title for the reason. You really need a firm grasp of the object-oriented principles and multi-tiered architectures to take advantage of the information herein. Overall, an excellent adventure in programming. I strongly recommend purchasing if you are serious about developing websites for you, a client, or your current company. It will save you many hours of frustration.

This book is a terrific read, taking you through all the facets of planning, designing, implementing, deploying and supporting a modern .NET 2.0/C#/SQL E-commerce app. The first sections provide details on E-commerce apps, gathering requirements, risk factors, etc. The next sections go into great detail concerning the Analysis and Design phases - modeling, use cases, UML, class diagrams, etc. Then comes the core of the book. C# developers pay attention here, because Sarknas takes you step-by-step through everything you need to know, and gives you a complete architecture that takes your development to a new level. The author shows you how to build the entire system architecture from the scratch - the Common Objects, Data Access Layer, Business Logic Layer, Operational Layer, Presentation Layer. I'm a lead C# developer and I found the book to be well-organized, well-written and it's obvious Sarknas has spent years developing his knowledge and techniques. There's C# examples for every step, along with screen shots from VS.
