Malvolia, a fairytale land, is just like the United States today, and Count Nef deftly recounts the source of its troubles -- bad government policies. Princess Navina discovers that there are hidden effects behind seemingly good government programs. I found this book eye-opening and fun to read. It would be a nice gift to friends.
Great Satire to Introduce Students to Political Science
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 20 years ago
Mr. Payne writes a nice book about what rulers can do wrong for their people, in a sort of fairy tale style, with illustrations. As we read, we realize that he is describing modern America. This would be a good book for college or high school classes to read and discuss.
Great welfare spoof

Presented in a friendly children's book format, Navina travels the world to learn from other countries' political mistakes. Malvolia thrives on its subjects feeling bad, encouraging them to find and wallow in miserable circumstances, offering subsidies for those who succeed. Then you wonder which came first: misery or subsidy.... Could be an educational tool for a high school government class.
