Welcome to Peru

Have you ever been to Peru? Well, after reading this book, you'll think you have! And that is the only complaint I have about the book. No, seriously, I loved the build up, the characters, the feeling of the setting, the landscape, the heat. I loved all of it, but I wanted Conner to shut the heck up! I can only stand so much of a data dump. True, he is a Geek. And a paranoid Geek. And he is trying to impress the girl. But I don't need to know that much about Peru. So one point taken away. But only one point. I hope that the rest of the books are like it - set outside the UK, with creatures I DON'T know about, from either the past or the future. Just a warning, this book is set within the second series, so Cutter is dealing with the fact that Jenny is not the woman he loves, yet Leek is not around. Weird. Still, a good solid book, at around 246 pages and I would suggest getting it. New or used or out of the library.

Good Adventure

Books were bought for my husband who loved them. He said they are like extra episodes to the series tucked in.

A ripping yarn for Primeval fans

I've read a few tie-in novels in the past, and, as with all fiction, the quality can definitely vary. That said, I approached this book with great hope, and I'm absolutely delighted that I picked it up. The characterizations of all of the familiar characters (Lester, Cutter, Stephen, Abby, Connor, and Jenny all appear) are absolutely spot-on from their sources, and the new and peripheral characters are all well-drawn and interesting. As well, the book does what all good tie-ins should do - take the people we "know" and love and put them into scenarios that are both believable but so expansive that they might not be possible to show on tv. This tale takes our heroes away from their familiar shores and plunks them down into the South American jungle, and I really believed that they were there - they reacted to both their unfamiliar surroundings and the new threats they faced there exactly the way that I would expect, and even the familiar "redshirts" of the show, the sometimes-interchangeable soldiers became exciting and necessary support within the story. This is probably one of the five best tie-in novels that I've ever read, and I didn't hesitate to recommend it to my friends who also love the show, even buying a few extra copies to spread around. The only warning that I'd put on this is that it is a very adult story, with a lot of excitement but also a level of violence that I don't think I'd recommend to someone who doesn't have the stomach (which includes some adults!) or the maturity level to handle it (mid-teens should be fine). But if an adult story doesn't bother you, by all means, pick this up.

purchased for my son

I purchased this book for my 11 yr old son. He loved it. He read it about 3x the first week. It definitely has the action/adventure that would appeal to a boy of this age.

a fun read for Primeval fans

A fun book based on the UK scifi show called "Primeval". The book is a new adventure(not a novelization of an existing tv episode), and is in the same hardcover fromat and style of writing as the new Doctor Who novels. Definitely recommended for fans of the show.
