Pretty Man

Returning to New York to take part in a charity event, running into his ex was something Roland Marcus knew would happen. It was something he dreaded, especially when his ex was still with the man he cheated on him with. When the inevitable run in happens much sooner then expected, Roland propositions a hot young stranger to pretend to be his boyfriend in order to show his ex that he has moved on with his life. Josh Holden, a hustler and father, did what was necessary to make a living and provide a home for his son and his ex-wife, whom he is still very good friends with. When Roland approached him to pretend to be his lover, the money was too good to turn down. However, after getting to know Roland, the money wasn't the only reason he wanted to be with him. Pretty Man has a good storyline and great characters. It's a play on the Pretty Woman movie with the kind and smart older man pays a streetwise prostitute with a good heart to be his companion for a week. The twist is there are ex relationships involved and Josh has a son. The pace of the story and the development of the romance between Roland and Josh happen rather quickly. The romance side of the story was thin for me, but it was overflowing with hot sex and great entertainment. There are some moments in Pretty Man that were quite surprising. Overall Pretty Man is a fun and very entertaining story. Ley Reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

A Great Escape

Field, Ryan. "Pretty Man", Ravenous Romance, 2009. A Great Escape Amos Lassen Roland Marcus is having trouble accepting that his 20 year old relationship has ended. When he meets Josh Holden, a hot hustler in a used book shop he decides it is a good idea to hire him to be his date at some events he must attend and offers him $5000 with no strings. Josh is helping support his son and saving money so he can go into business with his best friend (and ex-wife) is very happy to escort Roland and not just for the money. Here is an erotic romance with well developed characters and a good plot. This is the first thing I have ever read by Ryan Field and I am a fan now. The book is a take off on "Pretty Woman" but Josh is not the usual kind of escort, His escorting is a side job--he has a bookstore that he runs. Roland has the cash but Josh is the one in charge. Josh is all male and he is a good match for Roland who needs a little dominance. There is plenty of sex here but there is also a lot of romance. I found the book to be a stimulating read and great fun. Field is great with details and his New York setting is perfectly described.

Pretty Man by Ryan Field

I had in the past the chance to read something by Ryan Field, and his style is like some of the other gay romance authors out there that I believe are in the field way before it became the last trend. Ryan Field is like Bobby Michaels, Gavin Atlas, Nathan James, Thom Jaymes... if you don't like your sex explicit and very detailed, and apparently (but mind you I say "apparently") without romance, you probably will not like his work. The premises of the book is exactly the same of the Pretty Woman movie the title refers to: Ronald is a very wealthy gay men, 45 years old, in New York for only a week to participate to some charity events he is promoting. One year before Ronald saw his 20 and more years lasting relationship with Kenneth end since Kenneth dumped him for a very very younger man, and he decided to sell his family business and early retire in Florida. Ronald is an handsome man, but he looks his age: he takes care of his body (he owned a skin care business, so he needed too) and he likes pretty things, and he considers his body a pretty thing too. He is not a man not aware of his potential, but probably living with a man who needed more attention than him, left him a bit unsure of his sexual power. When he is back in town and accidentally meets Kenneth in a shop, the first thing he does is to promptly hire an escort he only met some minutes before. Josh is not the usual escort; oh yes, he is young and hot, but he is way stronger and clever than expected. He works by day in a bookstore with his ex-wife, hoping a day to be able to buy the shop. Now don't get me wrong, Josh is not at all the intellectual type, he is all in all the classic sex on legs. He is a totally top, he works as an escort as side job, but he doesn't consider himself a man to be ordered around: Ronald could be the one with the money, but he is not the one in charge. And this is exactly what Ronald needs, for once to be the one to be taken care of, to be pampered and cherished as a treasure. Josh in his all alpha male behavior, has also the other characteristic of an alpha male, the one that makes him a good leader, who always has in mind the good health of who is under him (pun intended...). Now let me say that there is a lot of sex in this story, even a foursome that at first let me a bit perplexed, but all in all there is more romance in this book than expected. Both characters are not so simple as they appear at first, they have a good development, and always behave as I would like them to do from a romantic point of view. It's obviously a pink glasses point of view, not really realistic, but well, I'm reading a romance, am I not? It's obvious that Ronald is wealthy and that he can do things and buy things a normal man couldn't, it's obvious that the situation in which the two heroes meet and live is not ordinary or realistic, but it doesn't matter to me, since they behave as they have to do in a romance... well, maybe with a bit more sex than necessary, but you can

The Best Escape I've Read in a Long Time...

The thing I liked best about this book was that the one man, Roland, seemed so down and out in the beginning and wound up so really happy in the end. He was so depressed and so unsure of his whole life, it really made me feel happy when justice prevailed in the end. There's a lot of sexy scenes in this book, but there's a real honest love story that almost made me cry in certain spots. These guys reminded me of a great team that finally found each other and they are willing to experience many adventures without jealousy and petty stuff. I've never been to New York City, but I really liked the funny driving scenes in the book too. I couldn't stop laughing when Russell drove them to the store. And best of all, this is the kind of book I can read again in the future and enjoy even more.

A good read...

If you're looking for erotic romance, well devloped characters, and a great storyline, this is the book. This is my first written review ever, but when I finished this book I had to stop and mention how much I liked reading it. I'm going to read other books by this author now.
