Very good text for beginners

NO advanced experience with XML needed to dive into this book. A great tutorial.

decent book

I felt this book is decent enough. ... But when I was reading "Java and XML" I find that Presenting XML provides more information on XML than the OReilly book. Ofcourse OReilly book is good on Java programming part. Things like enity references are well explained by Richar Light. Some of the initial chapters try to present a story of sorts which is .... But the following chapters get more technial. Overall concepts are presented in reasonable and simple to understand style rather than W3C's website's formal XML specification.

Good for quasi-technical readers

I have a software development background and am now in a project management role. I really thought this book provided a good feel what what XML is and does. It also helped frame XML vs HTML. I liked it. Not super technical, but very readable and informative.

This is the first book to read on XML

This was my first book on XML. It is great for anyone using HTML as it explains: the differences between HTML and XML, the reasons for using XML, its history from SGML and also where XML seems to be heading. Finally it contains coded examples that can be used with a XML parser. If you do not understand namespaces, DTD (just changed) and what a parser is then buy this and get reading !!!!

Very useful introduction to XML

I bought this aout six months ago and found it very useful as an introduction to XML. I had been following XML on the Web, but still found this to be a great learning tool. There are now many more books and resources on XML, but I would still recommend this to any HTML professional who needs an introduction to XML.

The first XML book, co-author comments

As Tim Bray writes in the foreword (he was also the technical editor and, as co-editor of the XML standard, can claim to be one of the most authoritative sources on XML), it's hard to describe a moving target. We tried, but we also tried to go a little further than just a description of XML. This book attempts to cover the whole terrain of XML in its context of SGML, HTML and DSSSL-o (now XSL).
