Shinning light on false doctrines

I was blown away by the truths that are revealed in Gordon Ferguson's book "Prepared To Answer". I have often wondered why we have so many religions and so many churches all over the world. Gordon spells out the traditions believed by most denominational churches and then he shows us that the traditions are not backed up by scripture from the bible. He in fact, shows that many of the traditions of men contradict biblical truth. Jesus hated traditions of men and said so in Mark 7:7-8 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men. You have let go of the commands of God and are holding onto the traditions of men." Let every man be a liar, but the Word of God stands forever. So many of our Christian churches say that they believe the bible and follow it. Yet they also follow the traditions of the churches they belong to. Why?!!! The church of the 1st century started by Peter on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2 was not based on any tradition. It was based on the teaching of Christ and that he died for our sins and was raised from the dead. He is our Savior and those who follow the bible, the inspired words of God, will have everlasting life. What makes soneone a Catholic, a Methodist, a Baptist etc.? It is the traditions of their churches that they belong to. If we all followed the bible and only the bible, we would all be Christians and only Christians. Why is that so hard to understand and why do we all argue over which way is right? Acts 2:36-41 sumarizes how to become a Christian. It shows us what the first century church did when they realized they had killed Jesus. Peter was preaching the first sermon on the first day of the first church when he said, "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ." When the people heard this they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off...for all whom the Lord our God will call." That is it. That is simply written for all to read in any bible. Peter went on to say in verse 41..Those who accepted his message were baptized and 3,000 were added to their number that day. I became a Christian when I was 40 years old. Reading the bible for the first time was so amazing because I had never heard such truths before in my life. The truth that I saw made me quickly let go of the traditions of men that I had been following in the church in which I grew up. Unless, I can put my finger on the words I believe from the bible, I will not follow it. Gordon's book makes me want to get up and shout..."Finally, someone has had the courage to not only preach the truth, but to publish the truths about false doctrines!!!"

Good Overview of Doctrines, Needs More Depth

Gordon Ferguson, former Bible teacher with the Boston Church of Christ, writes a book that challenges and gives insights into different theological movements from the mainline Churches of Christ to the Pentecostal, Charismatic movements. He gives a brief overview of different groups beliefs then proceeds to give a bibilcal reply. The book is well written, easy to read and grasp, and follows the doctrines of the International Churches of Christ. However, with the many changes being made in the ICOC, Ferguson may have changed some of his own views since first writting this book. I personally don't know this but I'm sure that he would write some harsh words toward the failings of the ICOC leadership over the past few years. Overall, a good read.
