Excellent Learning Tool

I knew absolutely nothing about Premiere Pro, and within hours I was on my way to creating video. The lessons are very easy to follow in step-by-step format with illustrations. The book also contains sidebars that go into greater depth on the information presented. I totally recommend this book as a first course in editing with Premiere Pro 1.5.

Fantastic introduction to Premiere Pro

I needed a way to cut together my commercial demo reel, but I didn't have the cash to drop at an editorial shop. So, I picked up Premiere Pro and this book. Within two weeks I'm well equipped to cut together my own reels for years to come. The book is extremely well written and has a nice conversational tone throughout. The exercises were easy to understand, but are good building blocks for more complex projects. I generally hate "teach yourself" books, but this one was a rare exception. I can't recommend it enough!

The ideal Self Paced Training Program for Premiere Pro 1.5

This is my second Hands on Training Book. The first one was very good but this is the best and is the one I was waiting for (This is my first experience with Premiere Pro). It is the ideal self teaching program for learning Premiere Pro 1.5 especially if you have not given the first steps in using the program. After reading the first four clear and easy chapters I could make my first video program. The readings are light and clear and when I start reading a new chapter, it's really difficult to stop reading, especially because you are fascinated with the exercises you are completing with excellent results. Before ordering this book I ordered "Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 Studio Techniques" which is an excellent Reference Book, but not the most indicated book for a newbie self paced training program. If you have both books I think you will have the best of both worlds.

The Best Software Tutorial I Have Ever Used!

This is certainly not an advanced text. Instead, it is a basic text that does a superb job. Most of the time, highly complex software implies that any tutorials will be highly complex and that there will be a high probability that things will not work as described. That is the nature of complexity but it did not happen in this case. Everything worked as advertised. The book methodically teaches the basics in a step by step manner. The nagging little reminders and notes get old after a while but do not detract in any way from the lessons. Upon completion, a user should be able to capture video from a camera, edit it, slice and dice it, capture audio, create titles, superimpose video and graphics and export to disk or DVD. You learn all the basics and, better yet, you learn why certain options work better than others. All of this would be a good reason for buying this text but there is another, more subjective reason as well. The illustrations are generous, meaningful, large enough to see and in color. They are almost luxurious and made me look specifically for other HOT tutorials. Alas, I have not yet had an opportunity to examine the teachings but the lush color illustrations are missing. They are probably not needed but they were very much appreciated in this volume. I have used lots of tutorials for lots of different types of applications. This is the best entry level one I have ever used.

Excellent beginner book

I am an author of books about Macromedia products (Dreamweaver and Fireworks) and a certified instructor. However, I have just become a video "newbie" due to the purchase of my first video camera. Also, with the impending merger of Macromedia and Adobe, I figured it is time to start getting up on this technology. As a result, I needed a book that would start me from square one. Happily, this book is it! It assumes no previous knowledge of video and, right in the introduction, has subheadings such as: "What is video editing?", "What is Adobe Premiere Pro?", "How do I get video into Premiere Pro?" Each technical term is carefully and clearly explained. Like the other books in the H.O.T. series, theroy is kept to a minimum while practical, step-by-step tutorials are emphasised. As an example, pages 3 and 4 explains what a Project is. You are then given a 7-step tutorial setting up a project. Again, each step is carefully illustrated in color in order to check yourself and your understanding. As a nice bonus, there are additional subjects covered as QuickTime movies on the accompanying DVD. This book will give you a sold knowledge of the fundimentals of Premiere Pro 1.5 After this book, you might want to try the book Premiere Pro 1.5 Studio Techniques by Jacob Rosenberg to continue your knowledge.
