"Little Things Say A Lot"

"Praying In The Presence Of Our Lord With St. Therese of Lisieux" . . . a great "little companion". I have and have read and still read many volumes revealing the life and spiritual thoughts of "The Little Flower". Her own autobiography, "The Story Of A Soul" . . . "Last Sayings" . . . her two volumes of published letters . . and numerous biographies and presentations of her "teachings and thoughts". . . so then, why would i find this small "little" booklet to be "valuable"? . . . Well, for one thing, St. Therese herself was "little" . . . her "way" was "the little way" . . .it wasn't really complicated or buried in encyclopedic volumes of erudite "tomes". So many of her comments, written down communicate her spiritual approach in the small little encounters of day to day life . . relationships . . . and "prayer" . . . things we all experience daily in our own day to day (and not so very different for us than they had been for St. Therese a hundred years ago . . . some things never change. And so, to find "The Little Flower" accompanying us and speaking with us in such a convenient companionship is like have her friendship and companionship accompanying us as we ourselves come into the presence of Our Lord in the Eucharist (or even in a spiritual communion with Him). Her words prod us to speak our own to Our Lord . . . and they are themselves like a conversational "joint doalogue" . . . we are not praying to Our Lord "alone and all by ourselves" but also in company with this great Saint in heaven . . . indeed, it makes us more aware than ever of the meaning and reality of "the communion of saints" . . .we are never alone . . we are never "all by ourselves' . . we are always surrounded by "a cloud of witnesses" . . . the saints in heaven in Our Lords's presence. And as we enter into Our Lord's "real presence" ourselves, we form a choir with them . . . and to find ourselves praying in harmony with Saint Therese of Liseux (of The Child Jesus and The Holy Face) in the pages of this little volume, so easy to simply open to any page at all and "hear" her voice speaking to us and to God situates us in that very "communion of saints" and in that very smane divine presence. You don't have to "search the pages" . .. you don't have to spend time puring through pages and pages until a line impacts you . . just open this small book anywhere and you are immediately in conversation. Saint Therese is truly a spiritual companion on our pilgrimage through this world to heaven. She said that she herself desired an "elevator" or "lift" to carry her spiritually to God . . . this booklet, for us, may become that guide to that "lift" - the arms of Jesus Himself carrying us where it might be far too difficult for us to journey alone. No matter how many volumes you may own or have read by or about Saint Therese, you will never find this small booklet superfluous . . . quite the contrary.
