Praśna Upaniṣad, one of the principal Upaniṣads, consists of six chapters each dedicated to a question asked by one of the six sages (Sukeśa, Satya-kāma, Saurayāṇī, Kausalya, Vaidarbhi and Kabandhī) to Pippalāda covering various topcis. The origin of the living beings along with the cheif devatā (prāṇa) that support the bodies of the living beings are discussed in the first two chapters. In the next two chapters, the origin and activities of prāṇa along with the state of senses and jīva during sleep are discussed. The destinations of different persons who meditate on oṁkāra with different mātras, as well as a discussion about who is the actual creator of the sixteen parts of the material world are described in the last two chapters.
