Reduced-Fat Recipes

One I read that cookie pieces don't contain any calories due to the process of breakage causing a strange phenomena known as calorie leakage. In Karen Pellegrin's Power Desserts cookbook she makes sure the recipes are not filled with empty calories and most of them have less calories and fat than traditional recipes. She accomplishes this by using egg substitutes and fat-free dairy products. To keep baked goods moist, she uses a variety of cooking techniques. For summer you might enjoy recipes like Raspberry Lemon Pie using fat-free sweetened condensed milk and a graham cracker crust. Candied Sweet Potato Pie is perfect in the winter. Other recipes include: Orange Cranberry Muffins Kahlua & Cream Cake Black Forest Pie Banana Pistachio Coffee Cake If you dislike using margarine and egg substitutes, this might not be the book for you. If you are looking to lower calories in traditional recipes like Blueberry Coffee Cake, then this book has many solutions like using nonfat sour cream. ~The Rebecca Review

Surprisingly tasty low-fat, low-cal recipes

Well, I have to admit that I was skeptical about low-fat, low-cholesterol, reduced calorie dessert recipes tasting even remotely like dessert. I was glad to be proven wrong with this delightful book. The desserts are still calorie packed with most of them still having 300+ calories per serving. However, this is still typically about a third less calories than the same dessert prepared using a traditional recipe. Each one of the desserts has significantly less fat (often one third or less), has almost completely eliminated the cholesterol, and has added nutrients and minerals. I have always equated less fat with less taste simply because that has been my experience, now I can say that less fat can still mean delicious.Some of the recipes that I really liked included Amaretto Cheesecake Brownies, Chocolate Peanut Butter Crunch Bars, Hazelnut Fudge Cake, Cream Cheese Pound Cake, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, and Maple Nut Fudge. If you are looking for a better alternative to satisfy your sweet tooth or just a healthier dessert you can't go wrong with this book. "Power Desserts" is a highly recommended purchase for anyone looking to better their health and still satisfy their sweet tooth.

Great recipes, great taste, great nutrition. Who would have ever thought Id be calling dessert the healthiest course of my meal. Since I'm a chocolate lover, I was immediately drawn to the Chocolate Malt Pie. Yummy. I highly recommend this book if you want to add healthy desserts to your menu!

Great book, Great desserts

What a wonderful book! Now I can eat great tasting desserts without feeling guilty! Karen's recipes are very tasty, directions presented clearly and I like the fact that she has included nutritional information for each dessert. If you have a sweet tooth but want a healthy dessert, this book is for you.

How can desserts be so wonderful and so good for my family too! I love Karen's delicious, yet nutritious recipes. The Tropical Cake is so good and the Blueberries and Cream Cake is to die for. Next I'm going to try the Caramel Applesauce Pie. Desserts have never been so good in our household...thanks Karen!
