Lifestyle example!

It's terrible that there aren't a host of reviews for this old book. Written in 1992-93, Portraits of Vision, is filled with Barnett's way of "doing life". I don't recall one instance in which the author states, " in order to unlock the principles, you must follow my 4 point plan". I honestly have the impression that Barnett wants us to see the power of God in his life and simply showcase those things that have taken him where he is now. WHen a success story is related, it isn't in self appreciation, its about helping the reader see the glory it brought to God. I was inspired and energized by Tommy's zeal for life and love of God. Read Portraits of Vision and you will be too! Thanks Tommy.

On Target Advice

It seems people of action are often readers. I was so pleased to discover his love of books in the preface. I agree with him "Books are my friends." I agree with him even more, when further down the same page he writes, "Jesus is my source, my resource, and my goal." The man making these comments is not setting in some ivory tower merely pondering. He is a man of action if ever there was one. Pastor Barnett has made substantial practical changes in the lives of numerous people. On page 34 he talks about people of action. "Visionaries act!" he tells us. Pastor Barnett discusses visions as they relate to God's plans for us. He views success as a lifestyle, writing, "I want to instill in people that after you find a peak, the next vision and dream should be a higher one" (p. 35).On page 80 he has some unique insights on creativity. "God creates through people. Since He dwells in our spirit, we need to spend time feeding that spirit side of the inner man. Let the spirit soar!" he advises. In chapter six he describes the way he prays. He gets a cup of coffee, goes outside near his church and frequently listens to God. Active listening in prayer helps him to tap into God's plans for his life.In the concluding chapters he talks about living your life to bless other people. This is a powerful book, written by a man I greatly admire. I highly recommend reading it.
