One of those rare, non-fiction page turners!

Porter Rockwell; a biography is a must have for anyone interested in the history of the LDS church and, more specifically, Porter Rockwell, the man. There is a lot of church history included in this book, however, Porter Rockwell's life evolved during the tumultuous early years of the restored church, so this history is vital to understanding Rockwell as a man, and why he did and said the things he did. The history is not dry at all, however. It is told with such vivid detail as to make the book all the more difficult to put down! This is certainly an excellent book, well written and well documented.

Porter Rockwell Biography

I have read this book before and wanted a copy of my own for my library. It is a very interesting book about a very interesting man who led a strange life. Having lived in Utah most of my life I wanted to know about the history of the people who lived here before me. The Mormons here like to make him out to be a hero of sorts but I think that he was not all that they say.

A must read...for any reader

I can't put this book down! Dewey does an excellent job of placing the reader back in time as he develops the amazing story that is the coming about and triumph over the persecutions of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Because there is little written about Rockwell, Dewey does a traffic job of taking the reader through the church's history through church archives and journals describing how Rockwell was present at many important events loved by members of the church. I give it 4 stars and say it is a must read for those who are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and for those who would like to know more.

My favorite history of the Mormons

This book not only covers the most colorful person in Mormon history, it also provides a lot of background information about the pioneer period. Rockwell has been accused of being a horrible villian and lauded as the most effective lawman in the old West. This book does a good job of separating myth from fact. On top of that, it is also a very exciting book.

A great, comprehensive history of Porter Rockwell

This book is the best history of porter rockwell I have ever read. The author really had to do some research for this one. Port is one of the most interesting characters of early church history.
