From J. Kaye's Book Blog

Jack's (short for Jacqueline) father died and her mother abandoned her and her siblings at her great grandmother's house. Jack's brother, Simon, is getting ready to start 3rd grade, but he has a problem. Simon can't read. Jack will have to find a way before her little brother's teacher finds out. Around the same time, her sister, Tessa is still upset that their mother didn't take her. With all these hardships it's a wonder how Jack can stand it. All she needs to do now is survive this tragic path. What I really liked about this book is the main character, Jack. Jack is very strong willed. She shows great determination. I love her bravery most of all.

Beware - Adult Language Used

This book entertained my daughter but I was surprised by the bad language used. I do not feel the need for the adult language as the character could have been developed differently. Not all kids or adults talk like this. I certainly would have thought twice before picking it up if I had known. Keep adult language for adult books not young adult books.

Beautiful!

This book was amazing. I know this is supposed to be a young adult book but I have to say it's just a great read. Full of hope and love and gorgeous writing. Meg Tilly is an amazing writer. She finds magic in the real world. Buy this book and be moved to laughter and tears.
