Thoughtful and well-reasoned

This book was not what I was expecting. I was expecting a polemic against the entertainment industry. Instead, it is a thoughtful book that traces the history of the "Pop Culture Wars" from the beginning of the 20th century until the 1990s. The author covers issues such as the Hays Office and its impact on moviemaking in the 1930s and 1940s. He argues for intelligent entertainment and intelligent consumption of entertainment. I recommend it, although it is not always quick or easy reading.
