My Bible to getting published---

I could not go a year without this useful tool. I am new to writing poetry, but I have been published now with the help of Poet`s Market, with their advice and numerous submission listings. I`ve never had a writing class or attended a workshop about poetry, but if I had to recommmend one book to get you started without any formal training, this would be the one. Well, worth the investment. Stop throwing your money away on dozens of magazine subscriptions just to get some publishing leads. Poet`s Market will help to direct you to the ones geared to your style of writing:)

Wonderful Annual Guide for Poets

New and established poets alike will find something of value in this guide to markets. The annual "bible" of poets includes clear instructions on the submission process, along with info. on resources to help poets improve their skills. Information on how to connect with other poets opens up a world of possibilities for those wishing to find a writer's workshop or group. In addition, the guide features "insider tips" via articles on self-promotion, working with editors, etc. Overall, a great resource for poets.

A very useful reference

This book is a necessary reference for anyone writing poetry. General reference books for writers tend to mix everything together, and it is tedious to sort through the listings to find places to submit poetry. This reference volume seems reasonably complete, with good details on the various publishers. The listing is alphabetic, and coded with useful symbols. I just received it today, and used it this evening to locate a magazine where I am submitting a short poem for consideration.

The Absolutely Perfect Resource for Poets

Yes, this book gives over 1800 places to publish your poetry, but it contains much other valuable information. It gives you general submission guidelines, and the section covering frequently asked questions would prove to be an incredible asset for beginners. Though I am disappointed that there isn't a larger market for those who wish to submit their work to quality book publishers, this is not the fault of the editors of this resource. The book gives specific information about the poetry publishers and I suggest that those who aspire to break into this market take submission guidelines seriously. As a former publisher who published a few poetry books, it is upsetting to know that someone has submitted their poems without any planning and sometimes without a return envelope. Don't pass up this book if you are a serious poet.

Necessary for Poets

Have you bought it yet?If you are intending to be a published poet, and, like me, no one has heard of you, you need "2002 Poet's Market: 1,800 Places to Publish Your Poetry."Useful are the icons indicating if they pay, or won awards, etc. As a poet often writing with religious overtones, I need to know which publications, secular and religious, are open to such poetry. Some do not want to see any sort of religious poetry, and others are open, but with limits, and others welcome it. This book helps me avoid wasting my time, their time, and postage. By using this book, everyone is happy.I have used this guide successfully to be published. It is thorough, packed with info. You'll find the icons essential, as you determine which publishers pay, which are new additions to the guide, which are open to newer writers, etc. Also, if you are looking to get into the religious market, Poet's Market is just a start. It is decent, but only covers the largest publishers. You are should also buy Sally Stuart's "Christian Writer's Market Guide," a very similarly structured book, the definitive guide for Christian writers.I fully recommend this book.Anthony Trendl
