Great lessons

I thought this book was extremely touching. The book really does see things through the eyes of a child. This makes it easier for kids to ask questions about serious subjects and consider the possible repercussions of their actions. I purchased the entire set for my niece and she absolutely loved them. I gave them to her one by one and she has read them and shared them with her classmates and several parents have inquired as to where they came from and how they could get a set. I found both boys and girls find them interesting.

Amy Hodgepodge - Playing Games

Being different is a theme in the Amy Hodgepodge series, initially introduced through Amy's mixed race heritage. However, Kim Wayans and Kevin Knotts do not simply repeat the same variation of being and feeling different, but expand it and develop it, drawing our attention to the most simple and most profound theme: we all want to belong. In the first chapter, we catch up with Amy Hodges and learn how she is of mixed-race heritage, like some of her friends. We also learn that Amy feels different since she's been home-schooled and has come to Emerson Charter School just recently. These issues of difference are explored in the other books in the series, yet "Playing Games" pushes this major theme into new ground as we see Amy at the opening as the only girl who is not on the girls' basketball team. Amy Hodgepodge is tightly written, and compelling, accurately capturing the feelings of anxiety and hope that often define growing up. Highly recommended!
