Book Overview

In the same vein as Rockwell's earlier books--Boats, Cars, and Trucks--this new title presents various types of planes to the very young child. The artist uses clear, bright colors to depict the planes that, in this case, fly in a world inhabited entirely by rabbits--a very useful introduction to aviation.--The Horn Book

Pefect for the first plane ride

We took my son on the plane for the first time when he was eighteen months old. We used this book to introduce the concept of flying in a plane and he loved it! It was also a great book to read while we were in the airport and on the plane. A great book for the under three crowd.

Planes and cute little bunnies

This picture book is about airplanes, and the illustrations are fairly accurate. However, they are juxtoposed with images of a world populated by bunnies, which are illustrated in a cartoonish manner. My 3 1/2 year old son found this at the library and asked to check it out. We have read it several times as a bedtime story and he has thumbed through it on his own, but does not seem to be as excited about it as his other books on planes. This is probably partly because the book is intended for toddlers. The text is very brief and jumpy, and doesn't have the depth of detail that a plane-loving preschooler craves. Also, the images of bunnies piloting, riding, and looking at airplanes are a bit jarring, even for him. I suspect that there are some kids, particularly toddlers, and girls, who will really like this book. I credit the illustrator with getting most of the planes right (no exaggerated proportions as with other cartoons), so it would be a good companion to a child's first plane ride. The bunnies remind me slighly of Miffy. If you want to get a bunny loving toddler interested in something new, this book may be the way to go.
