Flight for babies

This little board book celebrates a general aviation flight in a bright red aircraft with an open cockpit and a big rotary engine. Two word phrases on each page form brief rhyming couplets which make this the perfect length for squirmy toddlers. Simple, bold woodcut prints are brightly colored and compliment the rhythmic text. My husband is a pilot and we like this book better than Byron Barton's Airplane which, while it does show several different types of aircraft, concentrates on a passenger jet flight and never identifies the private plane on the cover. The only fault we have with Demarest's Plane is that the tailwheel is missing. Our 16-month-old daughter doesn't care about that, of course, and will happily flip through this book on her own or bring it to us to be read. The companion volume, Ship is equally well done and we plan to seek out Train and Bus.

My 15 month old asks for it

These board books are perfect for our 15 month old who turns the pages, but often too fast for Mom or Dad to catch up. Two words per page in a rythmic style keeps his attention, as do the colorfull illustrations. Our son shakes his head to all other books at bed time. Plane, Bus, Ship and Train, make perfect quick bedtime readers!

still good at 18 months

The bold, stylish illustrations are art. The two word per page text is poetry. My 18 month old son loves it and so do I.
