A most memorable reading experience!

This book is much more than a war story. It is the story of the life of a family with all it's triumphs and tragedies. Mr. Stewart combines an extraordinary recollection of names, places and dates with a remarkable, flowing writing style so that it is not a boring read. The letters written to each other by a loving family are in themselves worthy of note both in content and style. For those of us who lived in the Depression and World War II periods, the book will help re-create the spirit and mood of the time. For those who did not; it will nevertheless serve to allow the appreciation of the history of that era when we, as a nation stood united and strong to overcome the adversities both from the economy at home and from tyranny abroad. Pictures on the Piano is a story of love and dedication, laced with twinges of sorrow. This is not a sad book, but a few tears will well up as you read.
