Absolutley Excellent Text.

I am not sure about the problems that some of the other users have come in contact with, but I found this text extremely useful. I used the text 3 or 4 years ago, and I still refer to it often. It has such a wide range of topics with excellent descriptions and great example problems. The text is also beneficial to those who are, lets say, mathematically inclined. Don't forget, the book isn't going to do all of the work for you, you do have to put some effort into it.The same goes for Volume IIHope this helped.

The BEST Introductory Physics Book EVER

To be honest, I didn't even need to buy this book, but I did it anyway. Having worked with Serway's Texts before, I new this was going to be an exellent book. This text contains hundreds of illustrations to help a student of physics grasp the underlying concepts. The book also has many diversified problems to help the student obtain the tools needed to be successful in physics. I would recommend this book to anybody, even those not interested in physics, because by the time your through with this book, you'll be interested alright.

What is the problem?

This is a great introductory physics text. Many have complained about lack of examples and explanation with respect to the end of the chapter exercises. However, they are not the truth. I worked most of the exercises, and almost all of them were explained in the text. The catch is that this text is meant for physics or engineering majors. Therefore, in order to find some of the answers you have to THINK and solve the problems without the text holding your hand. I think that the idea of thinking to solve problems outweighs copying an equation out of a text.

It is a great book

I just referred this book for one chapter but found it so intresting that I was not able to stop me after one chapter and than I read many more. All chpters are nicely written and provides full information over the topic.

it's really really helpful

Most of us engineering students started physics in high school, which is algebra based. Then we go onto college and the physics classes there use calculus. Now unless you are a math and physics super student, then you should probably buy this book. To me, it seems to just give enough calculus. Some other books - the one used in my school for example, gives too much calculus and confuse the heck out of me. But this book puts concepts as the number one priority, and caculus as the secondary priority. Once the concepts are conveyed to the reader, the calculus seems to fit onto the concepts kind of naturally almost. I like that approach, plus the fact that the author can really explain things really well makes this a great book for all students struggling in college level calculus based physics classes.
