Interesting and entertaining, although fluffy

Interesting and entertaining, although fluffy. Plenty of tidbits about Philadelphia that are interesting for a local resident. The list of neighborhood names and their dates of first written attestation (pp 156-170) is the best piece of the whole thing, and the reason I bought it. With some of the names it seems likely to me that they existed long before the first written attestation, but that is just a guess. This edition must not have sold well enough, because it seemed aimed to be an annual periodical but stopped publishing after this edition. Worth getting a used copy if you like local history. By "fluffy" I mean that it is sidebar-crammed for readers with limited attention spans. I find this a little annoying, but it's the standard way of making magazines, almanacs, etc, because many readers prefer it.
