This text is designed to provide students with a basic review of pharmacology and serve as a prepartion aid for course review and board exams, primarily the USMLE. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Short, concise discussion on each category (not specific drugs) with notes on drugs that have interesting or significant deviation from category. Explanations are short and sometimes thin, but if you do the practice questions you realize a lot of the teaching info in book comes from the questions. Highly recommended review book.
Best pharm book

This book is way better than Lippincott (which has prettier pictures, but isn't very useful when you need details-- don't be fooled)! I found the information organized, thorough (without being exhaustive), and well-written. Great for reference during 1st and 2nd years of med school; I hate pharm, but this book made it tolerable. For boards prep, I would recommend using it along with the Lange pharm flashcards.
Don't be fooled-this isn't a review book!

My med school pharm class required big Katzung, 9th ed, which was AWFUL and had pages on pages of worthless crap (unless you are an organic chemist-then enjoy). This book is just perfect. In my opinion, it's way too much for Step 1 review (use a flashcard set or First Aid) but it's perfect for an allopathic pharm class-it has everything you need to know, and very little that you don't. It also is well organized for memorization-many charts/diagrams, plus my favorite, little "Skill Keeper" boxes in each chapter that ask you a relevant question from a previous chapter, helping you to tie everything together. Each chapter also has Board style questions at the end WITH full explanations.
Excellent pharmacology book, but time commitment necessary

This book was extremely useful for me to study for the boards. It is detailed, yet very clear, with good explanations and tables. It emphasizes on drug use, interactions and adverse effects. Each chapter includes a series of 15-20 relevant questions, and you will find at the end a summary of all key drugs in a few words (very useful for a final review just before the exam). The book also includes 2 board-type examinations of 120 questions each. However, it requires a time commitment of several weeks to be really useful. Therefore, I will strongly recommend it to study during your school classes and then for review, or for international medical students or graduates who, like me, studied pharmacology years ago and need to review everything.
Just what you need for USMLE Step 1

An exellent review of the hard stuff. The book makes it much easier for you to learn Pharmacology. Nr 1 study guide for USMLE. I also used the book for exam preparation at my medical school.
