Practical and Right On

As a trainer and speaker on "Networking: Making the most of your Contacts", I was curious what Joe would say about Networking. I turned to the Networking Chapter. He said, "Write a handwritten note as follow-up, even for a telephone call." Joe grabbed me with that statement and I continued to read. This book is filled with many resources that one can use in her career search or when looking for tips about how to advance one's career. Included are stories that help support his points and there are many suggestions that will help you learn and grow in your thinking when you get stuck. Keep it nearby. Kathy Condon, Executive Coach and author of the Award Winning Book "It Doesn't Hurt to Ask: It is all about Communication."

Practical, Useful Advice to Career Success!

Personal Best is a great book to have as part of your career and success library because as your life situation changes over time, so will the relevance of different parts of this book. Several years ago, I read this book cover to cover. I now pick it up from time to time, read up on the subject most applicable to my situation or use a chapter as a checklist to identify additional areas in which I can make improvements. This week I reread the chapters on Managing Your Space, Networking and Going It on Your Own. The book is easily readable, structured by bullets and short paragraphs. Yet is still manages to provide substantive guidance, relevant research and helpful resources. If this is your first introduction to Joe Tye's work, his discussion in Chapter 6 of how the 12 Principles of Military Strategy apply to career management and job search are worth the price of the book. Mollie Marti, Ph.D. Author, Selling: Powerful New Strategies for Sales Success

Very useful, practical steps.

Everyone wants to suceed in life, the problem for most of us is that we have never been coached on the practical steps we need to take. This book outlines those steps for us. With great examples, quotable quotes, and useable everyday advice, the principles shared are applyable to most anythng one does in life. Joe Tye is a great motivational speaker and a pretty darn good writer too.
