179 pages - "...the lives of a fourteen year old girl and a burned out rock star entwine fleetingly with diastrous results..." This description may be from another edition of this product.
When I purchased this book I didn't have a clue what it was about, but I had just read a book written by Mary Sheldon and I had enjoyed it tremendously, so I bought this book. This story was very slow paced but I must say it was never boring and well the end really shocked me. Overall rating from 1-10: I rate it a 8.

Effie is the youngest daughter in a not atypical American family. After her divorce, Effie's mother and her two girls make the best of it in a Lost Angeles apartment. But the first of this novel's two parts opens with the funeral following Effie's inexplicable suicide, and her sister Susan, a high school senior, begins a diary in hopes of discovering the source of Effie's despair, and how she was able to conceal it within her ostensibly happy childhood. What Susan sees in her sister is a bright, funny kid who, though loving and affectionate, turned a gun on herself for no apparent reason. Later Susan learns that Effie's one alarming enthusiasm...an excessive adulation of the rock star David Angel, whose concerts she religiously attended, and whose local fan club she presided over...is the explanation of her death. David comes from a working class family and is infatuated with a girl whose wealth and class will forever hold them apart. His eventual stardom cannot win him what he most desires, and his fall from relative purity into debauchery does not end until...one day, the day he will die...he is visited by a fourteen year old fan...
The lives of a teenage fan and a rock star entertwine.

This book shares powerful characters with its reader - they will move you to tears. The talent Sheldon uses to relate the lives of fourteen-year-old "Effie" and her idol "David Angel" is magnificent. It would be terribly interesting to see this book portrayed as a screen play.
