Four-Week Bike Trip Along The California Coast

On their summer vacation, Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield (plus two teachers--Ms. Nora Dalton and Mr. Roger Collins--and eight other high school students--Todd Wilkins, Lila Fowler, Olivia Davidson, Annie Whitman, Bruce Patman, Roger Patman, Charlie Markus, and Barry Cooper) are planning a four-week bike ride up the California coast. Along the way, they pick up another cyclist: Courtney Thomas, whose father hopes the group's exemplary behavior will rub off on his troubled daughter. (Did he honestly think a month on a bicycle instead of a motorcycle would change her for the better?)As you can tell, Courtney is pretty much the problem child on the trip, wedging enough space between Elizabeth and Todd so she can slither her way into Todd's arms. Jessica is the last to be won over by Courtney's sudden attitude change. Even Jessica's best friend Lila falls for the new girl's sugar-and-spice routine. It seems like anyone the twins are close to, Courtney steals them away.Besides Courtney, there are numerous other problems: Lila discovers Ms. Dalton, her father's new girlfriend, has a secret past, and Lila threatens to expose her unless she does Lila's bidding; Ms. Dalton also struggles with her feelings for her ex, Mr. Collins; Annie and Roger are constantly teased by Bruce, and their relationship unravels because of it; Jessica falls for a guy who barely pays her any attention, which I thought she deserved after the way she treats Barry, the chubby klutz who's in love with her."Perfect Summer" isn't the best Sweet Valley High book I've read so far, mainly because I couldn't figure out why Jessica and Lila would want to ride a bike for a month and get all sweaty. Also, the whole Courtney fiasco was pretty lame. Why didn't she just run away with her Harley-riding boyfriend instead of obeying her father?This is the first Super Edition in the Sweet Valley High series. "Special Christmas", "Spring Break", "Malibu Summer", "Winter Carnival", "Spring Fever", "Falling For Lucas", and "Jessica Takes Manhattan" follow.

WHAT NOW?

The Wakefield twins and their friends are off on a bike ride up the California coast. Before they leave, Elizabeth, as gullible and naive as ever, makes Jessica promise that she will be nice on the trip and there will be no fighting. Yeah, right! In Los Angeles, the group meet Courtney, a disobedient, bad-mannered teenager, who joins the trip and becomes friends with Liz's boyfriend Todd. Ms. Dalton and Roger Collins, two teachers, are argueing non-stop. GREAT ROLE MODELS FOR THE BIKE GROUP! Why can't they at least put a lid on the fighting when they're around the group. Towards the end of the trip, Courtney and Todd are outside the tents. Courtney, while talking to Todd, is smoking a cigarette. By this time, Todd has agreed to leave the group with Courtney, because he feels SORRY for her. There is such a thing as feeling TOO sorry for someone. Todd, being an idiot, had reprimanded Elizabeth for not feeling more sorry for her. Outside the tents, Courtney drops her cigarette into a bush. Minutes later, a fire starts. Elizabeth, who was responsible for putting the camp fire out, thinks that she didn't put it out enough. She decides to leave camp, but everyone soon sees through Courtney and then found out that it was she who started the fire. Todd comes to his senses, and the others find Elizabeth. They all live happily ever after.

Pretty Good

This book is pretty good. You start with a series of problems and yet everything works out in the end. Todd was kind of dumb not to see through Courtney. It proves he cares about looks a lot! Ms. Dalten was kind of dumb for hiding her fears and running away from them. But still this is a good book. Especially the bear part where Jessic and Robbie are in the cave and Teddy Cooper saves the day!!!!
