Brilliant debut

Special Investigator Tina Paris works in the most dangerous law enforcement unit in New York City, the Special Prosecutors Office. Her unit weeds out those fellow law enforcement officials and politicians, whose loyal ties are to organized crime as opposed to the judicial system. The half Puerto Rican, half Italian police woman was the first female assigned to the squad, making her job even more difficult to accomplish. Tina is simultaneously working undercover on three cases. The first case involves an alleged nasty bad cop, Eddie Calvert, who runs a street card game. Word is that he killed someone who won to much of his cash and th en stashed the corpse inside a freezer. Her second case involves Assemblyman Neil Dandrell and his father, a state supreme court justice, who supposedly have organized mob ties. Her final case involves a sadistic rapist , who practices Russian roulette on his victims. The boasting faxes he begins to send to the police sound very familiar to Tina. Each case could lead to her being discovered and offed. Due to its reality check, PERFECT COVER is the debut novel of one of the best police procedural series to come out in a long time. Tina is a great protagonist and the three cases blend together in a very smooth and ex citing manner. However, it is that genuine feel to the book and its surprising but realistic climax that turns this into a great novel. Linda Chase and Joyce St. George made one fatal mistake with this novel. They made t heir opening book so good, readers will demand instant gratification with a second tale that will leave the pair (or any author who hits a home run on their first at bat) having a difficult time reaching the bat set by th is brilliant debut.
