People of the Fire (The First North Americans series, Book 2)

I've loved everything I've read by the Gears and I've read just about everything they have published. Wonderful interposing of fiction onto the facts! They use their expertise as anthropologists and as story tellers to combine what really has been found about North American Indians and interpose a very believable story onto it. They really make the past come alive! The inclusion of what has really been found by anthropologists adds tremendously to the books!

Monster creatures on bellies crawl...

So this is what Heron was talking about. This book is a great follow up tp "Wolf", with the meaning of the One becoming clearer in the lives of the characters. Here we see the origin of the Wolf Bundle and the Black Stone Wolf that will be become very important to the ongoing saga of there books. I will admit, I loved what happened to Blood Bear, he really had it comming.Keep moving south!

Even better than the first!

If that's possible. After discovering the Gear's style in the first book, "People of the Wolf", I had a much easier time following the writing style in this book. Strong women, powerful men, corrupt dreamers, love, power, courage the list goes on and on. An in depth look at life before history and what the mysteries life held then. When a dream was powerful and ancient stories were young. Add this to your bookshelf.

A Book I can really get into

I just got through with people of the fire. I must say it was as impressive as the first. I can really get into these books. It has given me a greater appreaiation for history.

I loved this book!

This book was really wonderful. My favorite character was Tanager. She represents the woman as a whole very well. She is strong in times of crisis, but she also has a femanine side to her as well. I also liked Little Dancer. His emotions for his people are so real its almost frightening. This book was full of archeological facts and history. What a great book.
