lovely book of illustrations

It is a charming little book with wonderful watercolor illustrations. Lovely to look at.

A very cute story

In this cute little story we hear about all sorts of adventures done by Pete the Penguin before he learns to swim with the other penguins. He flipper skates, builds snow penguins, plays with other penguins, and tries to learn how to fly. This book is filled with really cute, cuddly and loveable illustrations. The penguins are very round, and pretty much egg-shaped, but what makes the illustrations really cute is the fuzziness (the penguins look like balls of fluff) and lack of definition between everything- almost like a beginning watercolor. This style for the illustrations really suits the story, which is told well and flows nicely. A very good book. Loggie-log-log-log

El Pingüino Pedro

As a 1st-2nd grade bilingual teacher, I find the pictures in this book very captivating for young children. The translation to Spanish by José Moreno is excellent. However, some of the vocabulary words might be a little difficult for even some fluent Spanish speaking 2nd graders to read. I think this would be a good book to read to small children out loud or for 3rd graders to read on their own. The fact that penguins live in the Antartic region and that other migrating birds travel in this story would fit in well with a geography lesson or theme. There are also two ideas that young children could reflect upon from Pedro's experiences. They are 1) trying to learn new things even if you aren't successful at them, and 2) learning how to be a good loser.

Penguin Pete is great!

The books in the Penguin Pete series are great! My son (who will be 3) has enjoyed these book for over a year. However, they are meant for children older than this. My son is fascinated with animal books and stories and we read bigger kid books to him. He still enjoys them.
