A heartbreaking page-turner

This book broke me in a way. It's just too real. When I finished the novel I genuinely felt myself wondering about what was going to happen to the characters in the future. Nicole Dennis-benn has become one of my favorite authors, but I have to prepare my heart before reading her stories because they're heartbreaking. Sure she paints "fictional" lives, but you know these stories reflect the reality of too many immigrants and marginalized groups.
