WONDERFUL AND INFORMATIVE BOOK FOR THE YOUNG HISTORIAN

Actually, I probably should not use the term "Young Historian" as there is much to learn from this book for those of all ages. The role played by women during the years fighting for this countries independence is little known to most Americans. This is a great primer to get you started. Among those cover in this book are Penelope Barker, Mary Lindley Murray, Margaret Corbin, Sybil Ludington, Lydia Darragh, Nancy Hart, Mary Hays, Sally Townsend, Tempe Wick, Phebe Reynolds, Betty Zane, "Mad Anne" Bailey and many others. I would be willing to bet a Dr. Pepper that the majority of individuals reading this review have never heard of one of these women, much less the outstanding deeds they accomplished. This is a pity, as women contributed so much to the fight for our independence, were as brave as the men, and were just as exposed to all the dangers of war. The text is quite well done and very readable. As far as I can tell the research is quite accurate. The wonderful black and white drawings by Richard Lebenson are more than excellent. This is certainly one you want to add to your child's library (girl or boy), and indeed to your own.

A Wonderful Book

I read this book ALL THE TIME as a pre-teen and young teenager. I checked it out from the library nearly every time we went. I still enjoy it now. It is an amazing book. I really love it. I recommend it to everyone, especially history fans. It's wonderful especially for all girls (and anyone else) who wants to know about women's involvement in the American Revolution. This book is a MUST READ for all Americans! Find out more about how women affected the outcome of the war that made us a nation.
