This book can be compared to Wilma Dykeman's novel The Tall Woman. Both books present mountain life and women of the mountains with dignity. Patchwork is rich with regional history and culture. I felt like I lived in the place and new the people. The book is well written and progresses easily. Detail is beautifully written and not boring. I found I read every word without skipping over long orations. Having been raised in a quilting family, I found the weaving of the significance of the quilt into the story very meaningful. I am anxious to read more from this writer. It is refreshing to see mountain people written about with such love and respect.
