Educational and Fun!!

The book, "Passport into the Wild" is an excellent book for introducing your kids to the world geography and wild life. 1. The book covers 7 Continents of the world about: animals, people, and culture. It has stats for each continent (i.e., total population, number of countries in the continent, etc.). This is indeed educational for 5 year old child and above. 2. In the book, each continent opens up (fold out page) and has Jack Hanna's personal journal entries with many photos. Interesting reading. 3. The book is stitched ("smyth-sewn") and not glued. Therefore, the pages will not fall out and will last a long time. Each page is thick and strong. 4. It also includes "passport" for a child and 20+ stickers for kids. Big plus for imaginative kids! 5. However, I wished that there were more pictures of different animals in each continent. But it might be just my subjective bias. 6. The book will be best for kids ages from 5 and above. My daughter who is 3 years old doesn't seem to be too interested in the book, except for stickers and some animal pictures. My son (5 years old), however likes to learn about animals and the continents in the book. Overall, I like the book because it is educational and fun. Highly recommended!

The kids really dove into this one!

This book is a great, interactive way to get kids interested and excited about reading/learning. I made a little bit of a game about the fact that we were going "exploring" so the kids were intrigued from page one. Once we found our Passport and stickers we were ready to learn about each continent. The kids enjoyed the stories, pictures and most of all the stickers and writing in the Passport book about their adventures. I now know how to tell the difference between a leopard and a cheetah and that there are bluebirds in Antarctica! I did not know that! The book is nowhere near an exhaustive resource on each continent. It's heavy on the pictures and each continent has just a couple short stories about Jack's travels. Interesting stuff, but not a tremendous amount of content. The kids had fun reading the book and they learned a lot along the way - how can that be any less than 5-stars?

A lot of fun

This book is set up like you are about to go on an adventure, before you enter a particular section or continent of the book you get notes and a little checklist of what to have on hand. When you turn to the continent the pages fold out to give you a map, inset pictures of animals or people or things specific to that continent. The photos are gorgeous, the notes look like personal notes torn out of a journal. In the beginning of the book you get a passport and stickers so as you visit each continent you can stamp your booklet. My son thought it was awesome, he's 6, and at school they were discussing Asian animals and he couldn't wait to take it in and show it off. My only complaint would be that this is a great book for a classroom, and the fold out pages would need to be stronger if a lot of children would be using it. Also, if there were extra passports and stickers available for purchase that would be great. My son's school is an interactive school and I could see this book being a great tool in that classroom. Otherwise, this is a great idea for making education fun, it's not just geography and animals you learn about the people, Mr. Hanna has anecdotes, you learn about the land, the weather, and the checklist before entering a continent gets your kids engagaed in making sure they have the proper materials, passport and stickers. It's very nicely done.

Beautiful book - Great for young wildlife fans

If you child has a love of animals and a curiousity to learn about the the world, this is a great book. There is a passport included with stickers so you can add stickers as you cover new territories. The book is laid out like a scrapbook and covers North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and Antarctica. Most pages fold out to reveal Jungle Jack's facts about each area. The pictures are beautiful. The book does not try to give an in depth picture of each continent. Rather, it gives a brief description of each. It would be perfect for the up to 2nd grade level for getting facts for a basic report at school.

Great activity to share with the special children in your life!

This book is perfect to read with a child from about 5-9 years old. I would consider this to be more of a workbook/activity book than a storybook. The language and font would make it difficult for a child to read alone. It is broken into seven sections representing all of the continents. In the front of the book there is a little passport in a pocket with sheets of stickers depicting different sights and animals in the continents. At the conclusion of each continent's section there are activities for the child to do. They are really great conversation starters, and reinforce the facts that were just discussed. My eight year old niece and I read the book in several different sessions, doing a continent at a time, and on average it took us about 30 minutes for each continent. She really enjoyed it, we had a wonderful time together, and it was something that we both could enjoy. I think I learned as much as she did! She has picked the book up afterwards to reread sections or check out her passport and add notes to it. The only drawback to this book is that since it only comes with one set of stickers and one passport you can only really complete it with one child or several children at the exact same time. My nephew (my niece's 5 year old brother) wanted to do it but wasn't impressed with my homemade passport and my offer to draw the animals/sites in his "special" passport. If they included a few more passport sets in the front of the book I would be able to rave about this book even more since as an Aunty I have several children that would like to read this book. However, if you are looking for a special gift just for one child or you will complete it with a group of kids at the same time it is a perfect choice for any imaginitive child. Also, it does a great job teaching geography and touches on anthropology not just animals.
