Book Overview

Are you ready to discover the treasures to be found in a coral reef? Jim Arnosky is an excellent guide. He bases his uniquely informative narrative on explorations he and his wife, Deanna, made near the Florida Keys in waters once sailed by pirates. Talking directly to his readers, Jim Arnosky melds art and text to create an original, engrossing nonfiction picture book. If you've ever wondered about life underwater, this is a book you'll enjoy.

beautiful artwork!

This book is a first person narrative of Jim's and his wife's explorations of the coral reefs in the Florida Keys. He discusses what a coral reef is and describes the types of fish and other sea life that use the reef as their home. Over seventy-five types of fish are drawn and identified. I found this to be a very enjoyable picture book for a child that is interested in fish and the ocean. The pictures are beautifully drawn and the information is simple enough for a young child to understand, but informative enough for older children to also enjoy.
