Paris Walks, 2nd (On Foot Guides)

Well illustrated and maps are very clear. My friend used this in Paris last year and highly recommended it to me for my next trip to Paris.

Great tools for exploring Paris.

We've been to Paris several times - and are going again soon. We walk, bus, Metro our way around and love expoloring. I bought this book based on other reviews. They were right on. This is well done, well written, easy to follow, provides loads of details and great maps. I am looking forward to using it on our next trip.

Very knowledgeable authors; featured walks are a good basis for first-time visitors

I bought this guide the day before I left for Paris, mainly due to the crisp bird's-eye illustrations of the different walking routes. I rented a bike and was able to do 7 of the walks. However, I don't recommend doing some of the walks like the Ile de Cite one on a bike due to one-way streets. I was particularly impressed with the Left Bank Impressions walk with nice boutiques, galleries and outdoor snack stands along the way. The Latin Quarter walk, the Marais walk and the Island Hopping walks were similarly impressive. Every street corner was worthy of a picture. The authors definitely researched these walks thoroughly and I highly recommend this guide to first-time and returning visitors to Paris to get their bearings on this marvelous city.

Exploring Paris by foot.

Paris is a perfect city to explore by foot and by public transportation. Using three-dimensional maps and color photographs, this basic guide offers fourteen detailed walks through some of the city's most interesting neighborhoods including Montmartre, the Latin Quarter, St. Germain des Pres, Ile St-Louis and Ile de la Cite, and the Grands Boulevards in the Opera district, with helpful information on where to catch the Metro (Paris's subway), a bus, or a taxi, and reliable recommendations for places to stop and shop, eat, drink, and sightsee along the way. Having completed many of the guided walks included in this guide during a recent visit to Paris, I can highly recommend this book for the first-time visitor to Paris not interested in wandering too far off the beaten path. Nice Detail

When I made my first trip to Paris, I knew I wanted to do a lot of walking to see the sights. I picked up this book because it provides excellent detail of neighborhoods and nice tidbits of information about sights worth seeing. It's an easy book to read and helped give me a sense of where to go. Though in Paris, walking just about anywhere is a treat for anyone not familiar with European culture. This book was a good complement to the other books I had. I also found the National Geographic book to be a good choice too. My only negative comment about the book is that it doesn't help too much with keeping your bearings because the illustrations drill down a lot and you have to go back and forth to really know what section you're looking at. It could have also included information about railway stations, since these were important landmarks for me.
