This is a wonderful story with a lesson in perseverance that is easy for young children to understand. I read this story to my daughter's first grade class as part of a special presentation on Chinese New Year and the 15th day of Chinese New Year: The Lantern Festival (the holiday this story teaches the reader about). The children were very interested/attentive and seemed to enjoy the very colorful and simple illustrations. After the book, we did a quick art project and made our own paper lanterns with Chinese writing and Chinese Zodiac drawings. Fun, inspiring. I bought this book because it is worth having in my kids' personal library.
