Christmas is coming, and Paddington has saved just enough bun money to take the entire Brown family to Barkridges store for a holiday adventure. But things don't turn out at all as Paddington had planned...and Barkridges may never be the same! Leave it to Paddington, that beloved bear from Darkest Peru, to turn a chaotic Christmas disaster into an unforgettable holiday surprise!
I have to admit that this is one of my favorite Paddington and RW Alley book! It's charming and delightful and everyone just loves it! It wasn't available in hard cover for awhile, so we are all thrilled that we can scoop them up again!
I thought this book was funny.

Reviewed by Sophia McElroy (age 5.75) for Reader Views (11/08) I thought this book was funny. The pictures were very interesting and made me laugh. My favorite part of the story is when Paddington and his family go on the sleigh ride. They come to a part of the tour where Paddington is mad at the display because a plastic reindeer was laying on its side and all the stuff was a mess. This really made me laugh; Paddington didn't think it was funny at all. I think he is a really cute bear. I liked when he at the marmalade from Santa. Parent's Note: Sophia was so taken with the pictures she wouldn't even really talk to me about the story itself. I kept asking her and she just kept showing me her favorite pictures. I would have to say that for her, the illustrations told the story for her more than the words in "Paddington and the Christmas Surprise" by Michael Bond.
once more with feeling!

another paddington bear book that charms and delights and is read over and over without ever growing stale. the best aspect for parents is that it doesn't tell lies. the santa is clearly a store temp. and the winter wonderland is a tired show of shoddy plastic. and paddington's disappointment is overcome when those things are refurbished because his imagination does the rest. again: bond teaches without preaching, a difficult thing to do and which he does well!
Paddington Saves the Day Again

Paddington is on another adventure again. This story is about Paddington's trip to Barkridges to see the Christmas displays and Santa Claus, but the trip is not what he expects. He tries to help Barkridges and fix the faulty displays, but causes more commotion than help. However, Paddington did help when the story appeared in the newspaper, bringing the crowds and a few improvements to the store. And Paddington received a special present from Santa. This beautifully illustrated book has vibrant, new drawings giving Paddington a fresh new look. This books will become a favorite of any Paddington Fan.
