Skye Fargo finds himself taking in a passel of orphans in the winter cold of the Missouri Ozarks, and ends up fighting in a backwoods family war that can only have one winner-and one dead loser.
Skye Fargo comes across a passel of orphans struggling through the winter cold. After helping them to shelter Fargo learns of the horrific events that have left these seven Haddon children fatherless and homeless. It's the result of a long running family feud with the Braxton's and now the Trailsman is going to bring this war to an end. A fast moving book filled with action and memorable characters as is to be expected from Jon Sharpe. A book that shows a more tender side to Fargo on occasions, particularly when he first meets the children. The ghost stories bringing back many happy memories of when this reader heard similar tales as a child. No major mystery elements or twists to the story this time but it isn't really a story that needs them. A story that also shows how acts of violence and terror bring out the real feelings and strengths of people who have suppressed them, in one case here a previously unacknowledged love. The actions comes a regular intervals, the flash-back sequence being tough and brutal, so keeps up the reputation of this being an action-packed series. Another very good entry into The Trailsman series.
