An 8th grade Earth Science teacher's review

Heard of the book in a professional reference; bought it here. GREAT pictures for part of what I teach. Wish I could find them in a digital version to extend the application.

Masterful!

Not only are Michael Collier's aerial photos breathtaking but his writing personalizes the extraordinary images that he captures from his lofty vantage point.

Breathtaking....

Up-front declaration: Michael Collier is a former student who received his B.S. in Geology from Northern Arizona University [which is about 120 km southeast of Grand Canyon]. Decades later I am a retired geology prof and still privileged to call him friend. He is a practicing physician, private pilot, Grand Canyon boatman [now retired], lyrical science writer, and gifted photographer. Anyone who loves EXTRAORDINARY images and interpretation of planet Earth should own this book. The images are simply stunning....

Take a look at some US rivers from not so high in the sky.

I know Dr. Mike as a caring humanitarian who gives his time and medical expertise to help underprivileged and medically under-served people in Baja California. He gives generously of his time, energy and talents. He is a friend and a fellow flyer. I had no idea that his vast wealth of knowledge in geology was due to his geology degree from Stanford. I have even greater respect now for this quiet-spoken and humble man. Mike is an amazing human being who not only is knowledgeable in all of his fields of endeavour, but he has a great and very keen photographic eye; to hear him tell how he obtained those incredible pictures from his aircraft, while flying alone is a fantastic recounting in and of itself. What a journey. I recommend this book to anyone who respects our planet and wants to learn more about some of our very own rivers here in the United States. I was not even aware of some of the rivers that were photographed in his book. It is not his only book, but it is the only one that I own. I plan to buy the rest of his books.
