Hiram Diddle Diddle and a violin-playing cat encourage a cow to keep jumping until she makes it OVER the moon. This description may be from another edition of this product.
A fractured fairy tale, but tamer fare than Jon Scieszka. In addition to re-telling a familiar story--or rather, parodying an iconic nursery rhyme--this provides a good introduction to stage performance. While young children will enjoy seeing animals exclusively running the production, I am unsure that kids even at the upper end of the recommended age range (4-8) will get quite all the humor. "Do we need to bring in a stunt cow?" "No, No. I need this job! I got calves to feed." Not surprising that NYC writer Rachel Vail has a background in theater. Illustrations by Scott Nash (NASHBOX Studios) makes this enjoyable again and again. Children unfamiliar with "The Cow Jumped Over the Moon" a.k.a. "Hey Diddle Diddle" might need some help with the back-story. I have the Scholastic paperback (April 2000). Nice large format but thin as always.
LOVED IT

I bought the book while I was in college and used it during a speech performance class. It is SO hilarious; it is a WONDERFUL spin of the old nursery rhyme. It is so full of characters that are easy to distinguish for young or older children. If you're thinking about buying - stop...Just do it!
Over the Moon Takes You There!

This hillarious new take on an favorite old nursery rhyme will have kids howling with delight! The author has transformed the nursery rhyme into a theatre setting. Although some of the language may be a little advanced for younger readers, the illustrations and familiarity of the rhyme will keep their interest. As a teacher I also noticed the many, many prepositions in the text and feel this book would be excellent to use to introduce or reinforce directional words. Rachel Vail and Scott Nash have a winner!
Delightful, amusing remake of classic nursery rhyme

Both my 3 year old and my 18 month old adore this story. It takes the classic nursery rhyme and adapts it to a theater setting. The language might be a bit old for younger children but the pace and the anctics of the cow jumping over the moon are quite involving. Adults as well as children will be amused by this amusing redo of a classic nursery rhyme.
