Great book for New Moms and Any mom

I received this book as a Christmas gift in 2023 from my bestie! I read one devotional a day, 1st thing in the morning and it was such a wonderful way to start the day. The book has amazing advice for 1st time Moms and great reminders for us seasoned Moms. I've been a mother for 11yrs now and I found great reminders there for those challenging boy mom days. She even talks about if you grew up with generational trauma/ dysfunction and how you want to break the cycle. My favorite quotes from the book are: " Forgiveness is one-sided", "Forgiveness end your suffering because it end the wish for repay that is never forthcoming and that makes your heart sick because your hope us differed, cut it loose and you will be free". Such POWERFUL words, words to live by in all walks of life not just motherhood.

You Nailed It!

As a MOPS mentor I was thoroughly entralled with the humorus way Jen Hatmaker nailed the mothering of young children. She made me laugh several times to the point of tears. Young moms need to be reminded that this stage of mothering won't last forever and there is the need to hear the tales of others. Laughter is great medicine and helps to heal a wounded spirit or worn out mommy. In addition to the entertainment, there was a spiritual point to each chapter with thought-provoking questions that could be discussed with other moms or pondered individually. I loved the book and have recommended it highly to my daughter and daughter-in-law!

For Any Mom Who Needs to Lighten Her Load!

Jen Hatmaker has written a wonderful book for any Mom who needs to lighten her load! Her new book Out Of The Spin Cycle is the perfect gift for any mom...from the Mom struggling with her newborn baby, to the toddler mom wondering if she'll survive the challenging twos, to the more experience mom...who will enjoy looking back and laughing at her mothering trials and errors. Like a comfortable pair of mom slippers, this book should be right next to her bedside as a daily necessity. Out of The Spin Cycle has one key theme: less pressure for Mom. These 40 devotionals are centered on something that burdens moms as they are parent these tiny little creatures, delivered as a gift from God, without an instruction manual. I enjoyed Jen Hatmaker's perspective of motherhood, as I was the vice-president of the local moms club, listening to other moms pressure one another to have the "perfect child." While moms are busy scheduling playdates, Spanish lessons, enrichment classes, swim lessons for babies, and a variety of educational programs designed to elevate her child in status, Jen Hatmaker reminds us of the true meaning of motherhood: enjoy your child, as God made him or her. This is the first Jen Hatmaker book that I've read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I received an advanced copy from the publisher Revell Books, for review.

Forthright, faithful, and fun devotional for Mom

Out of the Spin Cycle by Jen Hatmaker is a espresso shot of encouragement for Christian moms trying to get it all right. Hatmaker has kept each chapter short, no more than two or three pages, so even the busiest mom can squeeze in reading a chapter a day. The chapters are filled with humorous anecdotes about her own children (Gavin sounds like a hoot!) as well as hilarious and heartwarming stories of motherhood from others. Each one encourages readers to let go of trying to be perfect and to trust God for the strength to get through each day. Sitting down to read this book each night felt like sitting down for a cup of coffee with a good friend who is glad to listen to your tales of woe and then offer the perfect advice to soothe your worried soul. She reminds us that no one is going to get everything exactly right, but we need to focus on the important things: teaching our children about Jesus and to love our neighbors. The book is a perfect gift for a mom-to-be or a mom with lots of experience. Both will find encouragement and a good laugh from a terrific author who has been there.

Out of the Spin Cycle

Title: OUT OF THE SPIN CYCLE Having time with Jesus shouldn't be just one more thing to do. Sometimes, being a mom seems like one never ending to-do list. Laundry, housework, kid patrol, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera. You are super busy and sometimes even overwhelmed. But you are also young, strong, and brilliant. And guess what? Many of the things on your list of expectations are things that Jesus never expected you to do on your own. In OUT OF THE SPIN CYCLE, Ms. Hatmaker takes a verse or a story of Jesus, and adds the humor of a mom's life in order to offer grace and encouragement. Ms. Hatmaker covers areas such as worry, marriage, priorities, money, the comparison trap, and others to bring Jesus' message in short, to-the-point devotionals. If you are a busy mom with little time to spend in deep Bible studies, then perhaps OUT OF THE SPIN CYCLE would be a good book to consider. There are questions included for you to ponder at the end of each devotional. If you are looking for a more in-depth Bible study or devotional, then look further. This book is ideal for mom's of preschoolers who are busy chasing after babies. Short and to-the-point with a measure of encouragement.
