Unexpected freshness

Clearly the writers first work and although the writing is simple and at times lacking in detail the author gets a BRAVA for originality. Just finished reading the book a few hours ago and I cannot get it off my mind. The tension between Casey and Ann is great, the supporting cast is memorable and the end has such an unexpected twist that I found myself realizing that I had forgotten to breathe. I had no idea where the writer was going to take this and that's a great thing. I finished the book in just a few hours and went back a little later to reread the end. Ok admittedly I read some of the other parts as well. I find it difficult to not give away what makes it so original but it is definitely worth finding out. The story is very well and above all originally done. I hope to see more original work from Beth Moore.

A Welcome Deviation From Formula

I'm always excited to see a new author published in this genre and am even more pleased when their first novel is well-written and intelligent. Such is the case with Beth Moore's `Out of the Fire.' This book brings two strong leading characters and a dimensional supporting cast together in a story that isn't just pure formula. First there is Ann Covington, a multi-faceted woman who is working to turn her latest novel into a movie. She hires Casey Duncan, an actress with a difficult reputation, to play the lead. As expected, these women eventually fall deeply for each other. But that's where the commonness of this story ends. Ann has a long-term relationship waiting for her at home. She takes that relationship seriously and refuses to admit or act on her feelings toward Casey. Casey, frustrated beyond belief, begins to accept her unreturned feelings. However, things begin to change when she meets Ann's partner - a woman with complex problems which are jeopardizing her seemingly-committed relationship. It's amazing how wonderfully written this book is. The characters are mature and likable. The angst felt by both Ann and Casey is felt by the reader as well. In short, it's hard to put down this book once you start. I thoroughly enjoyed it from cover to cover.

Something Different

I like this book. Story was different from most of the others I read. Some of the areas were a little light in detail and during one portion I simply couldn't understand why an author would take the story in an alternate direction. It was kind of like doing a u-turn while driving 55. The plot is good, the suspense was good and it all worked out in the end so good book and I hope to see more from Ms. Moore
