I tried reading this book over 30 years ago and had to shelve it, because I couldn't understand it. Since then I've had an exstensive education, and now after reading it I feel I have a better understanding of the world I live in. This book gives a comprehensive "single holistic vision" of the universe, life, and thinking. It begins with the physical universe and deals with "the problem of knowing", "the world of the very large", and "the world of the very small". These two worlds are mutually exclusive, and the very small world doesn't fit any religious paradigm at all. After reading it you can come to your own conclusions about the veracity of religion. (For those interested in the reality of religion you may want to read "Magic and Religion" by George B. Vetter, and "The Evolution of Man and Society" by C.D.Darlinton). Chaos theory is explained in such a way that most educated people can understand it. Life, the origins of life, from molecules on up is thoroughly covered. Genetics, selection, and evolution are very thoughtfully explained, and lead into "the mind". The origins of the mind, the coming of man, brains, imagination, and language are included. Moving on to Civilizations, culture, and domestication of the earth, the contributions of human societies and their interrelationships with each other are revealed in such a way that the core of many beliefs that humans foster should come under scrutiny for the truth. The creative capacity of the mind and the future it holds is contemplated. Where are we going and what will we do? This book is an eye opener for those trying to find answers about this world and are tired of the usual religious and philosophic rubbish that has been disseminted for the last few thousand years. For those of you looking for "the truth", I recommend this book.
Exceptionally well organized thoughts and ideas on cosmology
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 26 years ago
This book presents a well organized and deeply thought out approach at describing and explaining cosmology and human consciousness within the cosmological context. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in a non-religious explanation of "what's it all about".
