Live by Faith in the Marketplace

D.L. Moody opined: "The enemy rules all men that are in his kingdom: Some he rules through lust. Some he rules through covetousness. Some he rules through appetite. Some he rules by their temper, but he rules them. And none will ever seek to be delivered until they get their eyes open and see that they have been taken captive." And herein one finds how to live for God and avoid the traps of success through the counsel and insights from over thirty top-tier leaders and CEO's. In "Our Souls at Work: How Great Leaders Live Their Faith in the Global Marketplace," the reader receives business and spiritual advice from: - Steve Reinemund (past CEO Pepsi) - John Tyson, Chair (former CEO of Tyson Foods) - Mo Anderson (Keller Williams Realty - Dennis Bakke (founder of AES) - And several additional business experts. This easy-to-understand volume focuses on 12 essential topics related to a faith motivated business life. Leadership, character, success, stewardship, relationships, and ethics are the most outstanding subjects covered. "Our Souls at Work" is a wonderful resource for the businessperson, leader, or entrepreneur. Mark Russell (founder of Russell Media. Ph.D.: Intercultural Studies, Asbury Theological Seminary) has complied a fine collection of essays that will both instruct and inspire the reader toward faith-filled success. WOW

I'm amazed they were able to put together such a star lineup. This is one you will want to read over and over. So don't give your copy away. I sent them as gifts to several friends.

A wealth of wisdom

SOULS AT WORK is a compilation of wisdom. I appreciate the organization of the book. For instance, instead of asking one person to write a chapter about "Balance", editor Mark Russell includes nine people's stories and opinions. I enjoyed how each contributor shared personal failures and successes. Very candid advice - like what you'd receive from a mentor over coffee. SOULS AT WORK will be a book I return to many times in my life. I recommend it for anyone who will start a business or ministry or who wants to be a strong leader.

Exceptional read!

This collection of wisdom from some great leaders, is well put together. I was there for the original speeches and original conferences, and this is a great way to share this collective knowledge and life experiences beyond the 60 of us who were there live to hear it.

Such a need for a book like this!

Dr. Mark L. Russell has written the book I wish I had access to 25 years ago when I began my career in business. It answers most every major spiritual question I had during that career. If you are a believer, have you ever asked yourself: "Am I migrating away from my faith by taking a job in the business world? Or put another way, How can I prevent slipping away from my faith when I'm expected to leave my soul at the door every morning?" I had this and so many other soul-related questions often. We've all heard or seen how wicked some people get when they begin to make accomplishments, get recognition, receive monetary or non-monetary rewards, and get promoted up the ladder. I was fearful of success. The thought of having more money, power or fame than the little I had scared me. I felt like I might be selling my very soul to the devil himself when my company promoted me! Some of my believing friends clearly thought I was! Yet I felt "called" to accept the promotion and work hard to make sure I lived my faith without pounding people with it. I was also concerned if I "made it" people might say it was MY doing, and certainly not that of my God. There was a little cheer at our company: "If it's to be, it's up to me." Sure enough, when I began to become more successful, some of my bosses told me they wanted lots of other managers to succeed like I had, and assigned me the task of writing a book about what made me successful -- but I couldn't talk about my faith or my God in it. I tried to convince them such a book would be impossible for me to write and prayed hard about this dilemna. I had to give up the successful career and take an early retirement package rather than write one page, much less a whole book, about what made me successful without mentioning one word about God's grace, His direction, His protection, His love, His forgiveness, or how He made sure I was well trained, equipped and enabled to accomplish much in my business career. If I had written a book then, I would have wanted it to be much like Dr. Russell's book. It's a book so many of my friends and acquaintences are hungry for still! Although this is one of those books you can easily read a little of and put it down, I could NOT put it down! I learned that Business is NOT the source of all evil. Just read this book and see just how much good has been done with God on the job! Business is a good place to be if you want to serve God with your business talents. I'm recommending this book to businessmen and women as well as leaders of business and academia in hopes they will not only use it for their own learning, but share it with the people they lead. I believe it should be part of any college's business ethics resources, and kept in an easy to access place. Just imagine the impact these stories about how the book's subjects live their faith at work might have on people from Wall Street all the way to Main Street.
