A highly recommended retelling of a classic story

An exquisitely illustrated storybook for children ages ten and up, Sybil Grafin Schonfeldt's Orpheus And Eurdice traces the young life of Orpheus, son of the music, Calliope, who was raided by the muses and the nymphs, and taught to play the lyre by Apollo. So enchanting was Orpheus' gift for music that even wild animals, trees, and rocks are charmed. When is marriage to the oak nymph Eurdice is foiled by her sudden death, Orpheus ventures into the shadow realm of Hades, god of the Underworld. His intent is to bring his true love back to the land of the living and persuades Hades through the power of a song to permit it. Hades does, but with a very special condition. Iassen's Ghiuselev's artwork is museum quality and perfectly showcases this able and highly recommended retelling of a classic story from Greek mythology.
