After having an e-mail exchange with the author, John Tvedtnes, I purchased his book on the topic we were discussing, the Latter-day Saint Priesthood. I strongly recommend this book for any Latter-day Saint or those interested in Mormon history, as Tvedtne's cites from a number of obscure primary sources, such as the Kirtland Revelation Book and the 1833 Book of Commandments, alongside many other documents. Moreover, this book rebuttals the arguments forwarded by people such as D. Michael Quinn in "The Mormon Hierarchy: Origins of power" where critics clam that the Priesthood was an after thought, concuted by Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon after 1829 (June 1831, according to Quinn, is the date the Melchizedek Priesthood was first presented into the Church).
