The Ninth Edition of Organic Chemistry continues Solomons-Fryhle's tradition of excellence in teaching and preparing students for success in the organic classroom and beyond. Students are often overwhelmed by the early rigors of organic chemistry. Solomons-Fryhle prepares students for these early rigors by introducing acids & bases--topics they know from general chemistry--early, followed by chapters on structure and stereochemistry. Next, a discussion of ionic reactions gives students a foundation for the vast majority of reactions that they will encounter. The Ninth Edition continues to introduce IR spectroscopy in chapter 2 (after functional groups) and Carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy in chapter 4, providing synergy with most lab courses and, again, reinforcing learning. The new edition of Solomons-Fryhle also has a completely revised WileyPLUS course to help students and instructors reach their full potential. WileyPLUS provides instructors with the most robust online homework solution in organic chemistry. This revision of WileyPLUS meets students where and when they learn and provides them with a learning platform that offers real learning solutions that complement their approach to managing and mastering organic concepts.
livro muito bom e em optimo estado. W.G.Solomons é o Pai da quimica e este um clássico sem dúvida. para estudar não há melhor, ilustrações muito boas que nos ajudam a visualizar muito bem as cenas. recomendo vivamente.
Best of Breed

I've read Wade, Hornback, the book authored by the UC Berkeley profs, and this one. This is the best of the lot. Excellent explanations Good balance of concepts, examples, problems, applications to real world chem issues, etc. Hornback was too simplistic, and won't get you to where you need to be for the ACS exam. It's a good 2nd book and has lots of practice questions. Wade and the UC Berkeley books were poorly written. Some of the reviews noted the lack of something. Remember, this is an undergrad text, and most of the students will get into med school and never use this stuff again. If 1300 pages is your idea of a lap read, fine. You only have so much space and time in a 2 semester class, and this makes the best use of your time and effort. The solutions manual could be beefed up some.
Pretty Good

I used this book in my udergrad. It is a fairly easy to read book. The graphics and diagrams are good, but it wouldn't hurt to improve them a bit. It is filled with lots of examples and practice problems. The bibliographical references are excellent for those who are interested in finding out in more detail about a certain topic.
A must for pre-med students

After using this book for two quarters of organic chemistry at UCLA I am confident in entering my third quarter using this same book. Not only is it vital in order to understand the basics of organic chemistry it is also a great study tool for the MCAT. Solomons presents the material in a matter fact way that is easy to understand. If you are going to study organics this is the book to have!
