An Excellent piece of work for both Beginers & Experts

I am fairly new to the IT World, specially the Web technology. This book gave me a clear understanding of the Web concepts. The book is written very meticulously. The explanations are very clear and to the point with very good examples. Truly, it is a Toolkit Reference and can be used to develop any kind of Oracle Web Application. The book covers all topics from the Installation of the Oracle Web Server to the Development of Oracle Web Applications. I am using this book very extensively at my office and home. I very highly recommend this book and would purchase all the books written by the author.

I bought a second copy for home...

Got some Oracle experience? Created some web pages? Don't be threatened by the seemingly complex task of creating web based applications using Oracle Application Server. There's a tool called "WebAlchemy" that takes HTML code and converts it into PL/SQL code using the htp and htf functions that are a big part of the Web Toolkit. After that, the actual programming effort can focus on functionality, rather than just the appearance of the web page. Sure Oracle is complicated; but venturing into the world of web development with the Oracle Web Application Server doesn't have to be a major effort.

My OAS Bible

Although this book doesn't include OAS 4.0 installation, everything else is 4.0. This is my OAS / Web development bible. It is the only book I really use. I use it every day! This book provides a great start from the ground up! I'd highly recommend it

Probably the best on the topic

I have read all of the books I can find on Oracle's Web Application Server and this is the best I have found. It covers a lot of ground, provides clear explanations, and uses good examples. Has a few typo's but is an excellent source of information.

This book is a must if you intend to do web and Oracle work.

I recently reviewed this book for our local Oracle user's group (RMOUG) in Colorado and wanted to share the review as seen in the Fall issue of our newsletter:My word for this hot-off-the-press book is "Incredible!" Just published by McGraw-Hill, this Oracle Press edition by Brad Brown, Richard Niemiec and Joseph Trezzo, is an incredible value with it's vast quantity and impressive quality of Web information. The book starts out with a brief web history which explains the internet, then goes on explaining an intranet, extranets and web sites creating a good foundation for the budding web developers. Next the tools of the trade are covered and the reader learns about different types of editors and HTML generators, image mapping tools, browsers, add-ins and plug-ins All of this is still a prelude and building block to the meat of the book, which starts in chapter three. Step-by-step instructions for installation and configuration of a web server, including the listening agents, request broker and a handy check list to guide you with your own install are covered in the third chapter.Chapter four covers development in a concise method that is easy to follow. It explains hyperlinks, dynamic pages URLs, frames, tables, HTML, image maps, applets, standards, and includes eight example applications. The book goes on to cover six chapters of HTML, Java, converting HTML to PL/SQL, Security on the web, the PL/SQL Web took kit and the Web OWA packages and procedures. The toolkit part of the book includes the toolkit structure, head tags, format tags, object tags, table tags, form tags, frame tags and writing cartridges. It that is not enough, the book is absolutely packed with examples, code, routines and programs for developing web applications in the web tool set. An added bonus to this well written technical documentation are the "Tips", "Notes" and "Cautions" embedded throughout the pages to help the reader when they actually applying the information to their work. This too was incredibly valuable.If there is anything wrong with this book it is that there is too much material. I originally planned to review it over one weekend but ended up taking three weekends to get through it well enough to write this article, because it was so comprehensive. After having gone through it now, I can say it is now one of my most valued professional books. If you are intend to do any work with Oracle and the web, this publication is a must.
